The next Consumer Electronics Show will be January 7-10, 2014 in Las Vegas. The prediction is that this year there will be 185,000 visitors.

When I attended last year I visited all the halls. It took days to meet with the nearly 100 companies I had targeted (and probably an equal number I had not known about). I learned a lot about what was new, but I was also able to see for myself how few companies were ready to talk about their new hardware, even at a forward looking event like CES.

This year I believe there will be many new products for hands-free AR experiences. That’s one of the categories for which I’m going to be looking.

I’m also going to be studying everything I can find on wearables because some of the technologies for wearable computing could also be used for future AR-enabled platforms.

Finally, I will be looking at sensor fusion and context awareness systems. This should be in the MotionTech zone organized by the MEMS Industry Group.

Part of the time I’ll be in a stand in the South Hall supporting the IEEE Standards Association communicate about how it is helping to make open and interoperable AR possible through its standards.
